Facebook at present focuses on some of the biggest names on the platform to create video shows. Furthermore, it recruits its top publishers for exclusive shows. The social media giant is exploring huge deals with companies to produce original video shows that would provide entertainment to engage more and more people all over the world.


Facebook is no doubt a social media giant. It has signed deals with Mashable, Conde Nast and Refinery 29 to produce exclusive and original video shows. The companies join a list, which includes Vox Media, BuzzFeed, Group Nine Media and Attn. Most of these companies already are being paid by Facebook to produce on-demand and live video for the news feed each month. Facebook search now is much easier. This is the social media’s attempt to turn the video tab to a YouTube-like experience. Facebook, since the last part of 2016 has been on the lookout for entertainment content that would engage all the more Facebook friends.  It would distribute and fund on a redesigned video tab on its mobile application. FB is looking towards funding shows in two tiers, the original shows, calling it hero units that would be 20 to 30 minute scripted and unscripted shows that FB will fully own as well as spotlight shows that would be shorter, 4 to 10 minute formals but not owned by FB.

Moreover, FB is looking at six broad genres, which include sports, science, pop culture, gaming, lifestyle and teens. Facebook originals budgets are in the $250,000 as per episode, which puts them in the low-end cable TV range. Budgets on the one hand for spotlight shows sit from $10,000 and $40,000 per episode. Most deals of FB for video shows are within the spotlight program. Partner companies sold numerous shows to FB for spotlight that would exclusively remain on the shows for just a period of time. Sources said that spotlight shows are Facebook exclusive for seven day or a week. After this, the content owner is free to distribute it on their own applications and websites. A couple of weeks after the FB premiere, spotlights shows could go to YouTube as well as other platforms. This varies from Facebook originals or the ‘hero’ unites that would be completely owned by FB. Facebook for the originals is in talks with and is purchasing shows from bigger TV networks and production companies and some of the top digital publishers on its platform. The number of FB originals would be lesser compared to the number of spotlight shows.

After the social media giant recouped the cost through running mid-rolls during episodes, it would split any additional ad revenue with owners of content. The same as YouTube, FB would take a 45 percent cut. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO said that FB is willing to fund content today. Its goal is to create an ad program, which could support shows without FB having to fund it upfront. FB originally wanted to release it’s vide shows late of this month and then in June in time for the Cannes Lions Festival. This has been pushed back as the social media giant gets to work in redesigning the video tab and determine how shows would be promoted and distributed. This is a new and big endeavor and FB have been super responsive in terms of pitches and being creative.

The move is not entirely new territory to FB, since it has done deals with media companies providing them income in exchange for using the FB Live video broadcasting platform, for example. Those were aimed in acquiring outlets with audience building exclusive content only for FB, as a way of driving eyeballs towards the new format. Facebook purchasing its own content, from both outset and via licensing could result in a more Amazon or Netflix Prime Video-style outcome, with owned content as the driver for the rest and vice-versa. FB is more inclined to use anything that it produces primarily as a spark for getting third parties to create however.

Creating their own original content library, which include big audience draws such as sports, can help FB chart a better path to monetization for itself and for other partners already using the network to push their videos. Apple will launch iWatch Nike+ Edition

India was not amongst the first countries to get the Apple’s iPhone 7 and 7 plus. It was also not first to launch the Apple watch series 2. But for the change, the Apple Watch Nike+ in India on October 28 in the USA, UK and other markets.

The Apple in India updated its website to show that the Apple Watch Nike+ model would be on sale on 28th October 2016. It also unveiled about its price which is Rs 32,900($492) for the 38mm model and Rs 34,900 ($522) for the bigger 42mm model. This model was revealed during the launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus.

This watch gives the sporty look and feel with a lightweight, flexible fluroelastomer which is also used in Apple sports bands. It has Nike+ Run Club app with perforated straps and fitness-centric apps.

It is designed with inbuilt GPS which can track your pace, distance and route without even iPhone. Cherry on the top, it is water resistant up to the depth of 50 meters. The watch comes in 4 different color combinations to add the special look in the ecosystem.

This watch is a unique version of the Apple Watch Series 2 with a watch band and Nike watch faces/ complications. Nike has also created a Nike + Run Club social space that integrates with its Nike+ Apple Watch, and has even carved it’s swoosh into the aluminum back of the Apple watch.

It has shown quite improvement on its predecessor with a dual-core processor, a brighter 1000-nit Retina display with Force Touch and built-in GPS.

Zend Server 9 supports PHP 7

Developers and administrators can now take advantage and learn PHP 7 quickly by using the Zend Server 9. Rogue Wave Software has released its Zend Server 9, which is a new version of PHP server released with new debugging proficiencies. This version has improved the overall performance and speed for the language.

It is also available as a Windows binary, Mac OS X package, and a Linus package.

Salesforce acquires Chicago’s Gravitytank

Gravitytank is the Chicago innovation consultancy, helping the brands to grow their business and has been acquired by Salesforce.


This news was announced recently in one of the blog posts and it was revealed that they would combine their knowledge for drafting designs, research, and strategy which would help the customers of Salesforce to reshape their vision of the company and make a connection with the partner in the new ways.

Gravitytank was founded in 1999 and had worked with many brands including consumer electronics, consumer packaged goods, digital technology and more all over the world. It has also worked with Chicago restaurant Bright Wok Kitchen on its menu and ordinary experience.

It was also revealed that since 16 years they have put the hard efforts in the design, research, and strategy which would bring clarity in the innovations. Shailesh Patel who is the partner of Gravitytank said that they are looking forward to continuing that work at Salesforce, which would help the customers with the great business opportunities on a larger scale as a part of the world’s best CRM platform.

Terms and conditions are not yet revealed. This is the second Chicago base agency Salesforce had acquired. The previous year, Salesforce acquired a start-up base company which was five years old named AKTA from the Chicago entrepreneur John Rao.

Salesforce spent nearly $4billion in 1 and half year for acquisition. With the offices in Chicago and San Francisco, its Chicago headquarters is actually right across the street from Salesforce’s Chicago office in River North.

Google looks to bring down Face Time with Duo app

Google to pull support for Chrome apps for Linux, Mac and Windows

Recently, the news stated that Google has decided to phase out the support for the chrome browser apps for Linux, Windows, and Mac in the coming years. Chrome apps include Google Drive, Google store, calendar, Google news, Google Docs, Sheet and more. Most of these apps are hosted as regular web apps.

Many apps are integrated with the web store of Chrome. These apps can be downloaded and can be launched through the chrome browser. It enables to open in the separate window similar to the programs installed on the computer.

Very less percent of the users are active on Chrome apps for Windows, Mac, and Linux. All types of Chrome apps will remain supported and maintained on Chrome OS for the foreseeable future. Some new enhancements in the apps will be applicable to the Chrome OS devices including kiosks. For the developers, they are allowed and will continue to develop the Chrome apps for the Chrome OS, addressed by Rahul Roy-Chowdhury who is the VP product management at Google chrome.

The report stated that the new chrome apps will be will be available to the users on the Chrome OS starting later of 2016 and won’t be accessible on the Windows, Mac, and Linux. Existing apps will remain available and still be updated. The Chrome apps that are built till now and will remain accessible across all the platforms, with the developers having continued access to update them.

In the later quarter of 2017, Chrome apps won’t be available longer for Windows, Mac, and Linux but it will continue to surface the extensions and themes. Mr. Chowdhury also added to the post that in the first Quarter of 2018 users who are using these platforms will not be able to load the apps of chrome.
